A simple memoryI've always enjoyed the little things while on outdoor leadership trips. The sunsets are something that I think are unappreciated. Whether the day is horrible or are quite successful the sun will rise and set each day and bring a view that will remind me why I hike in the cold, the rain and the mud and why this program has become such a big part of my high school experience. Being able to appreciate nature and experience new adventures with the people I've grown up through school with is a opportunity that I will never take for granted. There's something about a nice view when the day is done that reminds me of how lucky I am to be living in such a stunning environment and how happy I am to have experienced Outdoor Leadership and all the memories that came along with it for two years.

Fundraising |
Another part of OL that I appreciated because of it's ability to connect with the community is the volunteering and fundraising. The Banff Mountain Film Festival was the fundraiser that I took part in for both my years in OL. I enjoyed being in the exciting environment of athletes, outdoorsmen and community members and being able to watch all the documentaries that inspired me in my sport. I appreciated the support that the community was willing to provide for the program and the support that the Festival got itself. The fundraising in general was a way for the class to organize, bond and work for the funds that allow us to go sea kayaking. As I know from last year, being able to paddle around Quadra Island is an experience that is worth any amount of fundraising.
